Dear Clients:
As you may know, on April 12, 2016, the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors adopted an emergency moratorium for 45 days, to prohibit any facility, premises or property from being established, developed, leased, rented or used for cultivation, manufacturing, lab testing or distribution of medical marijuana. This moratorium is set to expire on May 27, 2016.
Tomorrow morning, the Board of Supervisors will hold its weekly meeting during which the Board is likely to hold a public hearing on whether to extend the moratorium for a period of 10 months and 15 days. Attached are copies of the proposed ordinance to extend the moratorium and a letter from the Planning Department urging that the Board extend the moratorium.
5.24.16 Planning Department Letter
5.24.16 Proposed Ordinance to extend Moratorium
Because this is a public hearing, you may attend and ask to speak against the moratorium extension. Members of the public are allowed to address the Board on any item for 3 minutes, so long as a request is made in person before the agenda item is called. The meeting is tomorrow May 24, 2016 at 9:30am in the Board’s hearing room located at 500 West Temple Street in the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration.
I cannot attend but I urge any of you who are cultivating or hope to cultivate in Unincorporated Los Angeles County to speak against this moratorium as being unfair and reactionary and unnecessary.
-Michael
